The Carry-On Edit

But for now, I need to tell you about today.

Because our car got towed in Siena.

Yes. TOWED. IN ITALY. 🇮🇹

We parked our rental car in the lot our VRBO host told us to use and went about our merry way exploring Siena. Everything was perfectly fine—or so we thought.

Until this morning.

Apparently, there was a Siena FC football match today, and the parking lot was closed for the game. All of the cars left in the lot were towed.

Including ours.

So instead of starting our day with a leisurely cappuccino and another beautiful Tuscan town, we started it at the Italian police station trying to figure out:

1. Why our car had disappeared.

2. Where our car had disappeared to.

3. How to pay the fine.

4. How to actually get the car back.

And did I mention there was not a lot of English involved?

Somehow, we figured it out.

One €50 taxi ride later, followed by a €185 towing charge (plus the parking fine), we were finally reunited with our rental car.

Travel is glamorous. 😂

The good news?

We survived the Great Siena Towing Incident of 2026, retrieved the car, and made it to San Gimignano.

And at this point, there is really only one appropriate thing to do.

Drink wine. 🍷

So that is exactly what we are doing.
