When planning our Andalusia adventure, I wanted a resort that would give us plenty of relaxation time while also serving as a convenient base for exploring southern Spain. The Marriott Marbella Beach Resort ended up being exactly that—a beautiful beachfront retreat with easy access to some of the Costa del Sol’s most charming destinations.
Resort Days Done Right
One of my favorite things about staying at the Marriott Marbella Beach Resort was the balance between activity and relaxation. The spacious villas, multiple pools, beachfront location, and laid-back atmosphere made it easy to spend a morning lounging by the pool before heading out on an adventure.
After busy sightseeing days in Seville, having a resort where we could slow down, enjoy a coffee on the balcony, and take evening walks along the beach was exactly what we needed.
Puerto Banús: Luxury, Yachts, and Market Finds
Just a short drive from the resort is Puerto Banús, one of the most famous marinas in Spain. Even if you’re not shopping for a yacht, it’s worth visiting just to stroll along the waterfront and admire the incredible boats.
We loved wandering the marina, people-watching, and enjoying the lively atmosphere. If you’re lucky enough to visit on a market day, you’ll find vendors selling everything from clothing and handbags to local goods and souvenirs. The combination of luxury cars, mega-yachts, and open-air market stalls makes Puerto Banús a unique experience that feels both glamorous and approachable.
Ronda: One of Spain’s Most Spectacular Towns
If you’re staying in Marbella, a day trip to Ronda is absolutely worth the drive.
Perched high above a dramatic gorge, Ronda offers some of the most breathtaking views we saw during our entire trip. Standing on the famous Puente Nuevo bridge and looking down into the canyon is one of those travel moments that photos simply can’t capture.
Beyond the views, Ronda’s charming streets are filled with boutiques, cafes, and local shops. We spent hours wandering through the historic center, stopping frequently to admire the scenery and soak in the atmosphere. It’s easy to see why Ronda is considered one of Andalusia’s most beautiful towns.
Marbella Old Town: Whitewashed Charm
While Puerto Banús gets much of the attention, Marbella Old Town quickly became one of my favorite places along the coast.
The narrow cobblestone streets, flower-filled balconies, and picturesque plazas feel worlds away from the modern marina. Every corner seemed postcard-perfect. We enjoyed leisurely walks through the historic center, discovering local shops and hidden squares along the way.
For anyone who enjoys shopping, Marbella Old Town offers a wonderful mix of boutiques, artisan stores, and specialty shops that are much more unique than what you’ll find in larger cities.
Mijas: Views for Days
Of all the day trips we took from Marbella, Mijas may have surprised me the most.
This stunning white village sits high in the mountains overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and the views are simply incredible. Everywhere you turn, there’s another panoramic overlook, another charming street, or another photo opportunity.
Mijas combines everything I love about travel: beautiful scenery, walkable streets, local culture, and great shopping. The boutiques were fantastic for finding unique gifts and souvenirs, and the town itself felt relaxed and welcoming.
It’s one of those places where you can spend hours wandering without any particular plan and still have a wonderful day.
Why Marbella Makes the Perfect Base
What made this part of our trip so enjoyable was how easy it was to combine resort relaxation with memorable day trips. From the Marriott Marbella Beach Resort, we were able to experience:
- The luxury and energy of Puerto Banús
- The dramatic beauty of Ronda
- The charm of Marbella Old Town
- The breathtaking views of Mijas
- Beach and pool time in between
For travelers looking to experience the best of the Costa del Sol without constantly changing hotels, Marbella is an ideal home base. We found ourselves enjoying the perfect mix of adventure, shopping, sightseeing, and relaxation—and that’s exactly what vacation should be.
Travel Tip: Plan a few dedicated resort days between excursions. The Marriott Marbella Beach Resort is too beautiful to use only as a place to sleep, and those slower days by the pool ended up being some of our favorite memories from the trip. 🌴☀️🇪🇸
